PNE get revenge on the Bees’
Saturday 11th February 2017 – 3pm kick off – Deepdale – Sky Bet Championship
Preston’s biggest league defeat this season came in the reverse of this fixture on September 17th, so when Brentford took the lead on 12 minutes, many of the home fans, myself included wondered what kind of afternoon we were in for.
McGeady soon showed us what his left foot is capable of when he released a rocket into the bottom right hand corner, to level the scores. Preston were the second best team in the first half, however Grayson’s stern words at half time fired the home side into a different proposition. McGeady almost taking the lead within the first minute of the second half, Brentford should have certainly taken note that this is what was to come.
7 minutes after the break Robinson turned in a superb cross from McGeady to make it 2-1. McGeady then made it 3-1 after some tricky footwork and another shot from outside the
area alluded 5 Brentford players and the keeper. When Hugill missed a one on one,
Brentford looked for a way back into the game but fortunately for the home side a Ben Pearson through ball to Horgan saw the Irishman score his first goal for his new club.
Substitutes Tom Barkhuizen and Stevie May impressed after replacing Robinson and McGeady respectively, both coming close to adding to the scoreline.
Unluckily for Huntington a flukey deflection sent Colin’s shot past Maxwell to narrow the deficit. It was all to late for a comeback though, Brentford’s second coming in the 89th minute thus seeing Preston break the 18 years without a league win against Brentford.
