Lacklustre PNE fail to get going against organised tractor boys

Ipswich Town came to Deepdale with a game plan and it was almost executed to perfection as Mick McCarthy’s team were denied all 3 points by Hugill who popped up to score an equaliser in the 89th minute.

On a cold and wet Saturday afternoon a crowd of just over 10,500 witnessed an uninspiring performance from Preston who consistently failed to get to grips with McCarthy’s tactics to frustrate Preston. Yet it was a piece of individual brilliance on 16 minutes from Lawrence who showed his ability when he cut in between two Preston players to unleash an unstoppable right foot shot into the roof of the Preston goal giving Maxwell no chance.

Preston huffed and puffed but could not unlock the stubborn resistance of Ipswich during a forgettable first half for the home team. However, the Preston players returned from the break energised for a slightly more entertaining second half, with Preston testing the Ipswich ‘keeper a number of times.

Ben Pearson returned to the side after a 2 match suspension for picking up 10 yellow cards this season and he certainly added the extra bite in midfield. Aiden McGeady and

Daryl Horgan with some excellent skills throughout the game showed we have to give them more of the ball as they eventually created the goal.

All in all it was a frustrating afternoon for Preston, however with all of the rumours circulating in the transfer window about bids in the region of £1.5 million from Ipswich Town being rejected by Preston it was almost written for Hugill to score a last minute equaliser.
