Preston North End v Brighton & Hove Albion

Preston show the Championship league leaders a comfortable win at Deepdale

Saturday 14th January 2017 – 3pm kick off – Deepdale – Sky Bet Championship

Preston were very much the underdogs in this fixture, with league leaders Brighton on an impressive 18-game unbeaten run, winning their last five matches. However, Preston played very well against this strong Brighton team and didn’t let them enter the game.

The game being dubbed the EFL’s result of the weekend.

A beautiful delivery into the box from Paul Gallagher allowed Paul Huntington to fire home in the six yard box to give Preston the lead. Gallagher was described as the best at delivering set-pieces in the league, this delivery did not disappoint. The goal came on 13 minutes which was a good time as it meant Brighton were chasing the game from then onwards.

For Preston’s second goal Callum Robinson did magnificently, being a lot stronger than he gets credit for. He stood Brighton’s Bruno up very well and cooly slotted home. Robbo sometimes doesn’t get the credit he deserves. M More often than not he has been weak but he took the goal very well. Most players would have gone down, taken the free kick and got the player sent off.

A disappointing attendance for a magnificent win over league leaders

Preston were much the better team from start to finish. Irishman Darryl Horgan certainly impressed on his full debut at Deepdale, exciting Preston fans. The assist for Robinson’s goal was utterly superb, one that gets better with every watch.

However, the only negative disappointing attendance of 11,391, almost half of those who watched the FA Cup Third Round were not to return.
